If you want to know your progress then compete with yourself, not others. Everyone’s situation, aims, exposure and struggles are different. This is my third year documenting my journey as a nature enthusiast. One of the highlights of this year is being a finalist for People of Nature Awards in the storytelling section. I am grateful that my work was considered worthy enough by the esteemed judges to reach the final stage of People of Nature awards.
The metamorphosis from photographer-volunteer- explorer- writer have reached another phase that’s of a communicator by 2022. 2020 and 2021 were quite challenging years in the journey of this nature enthusiast but these years also taught me to adapt to the change. Here I am sharing some of my learning opportunities and achievements this year.
Writing poems for Science Next Door continued, the year started with the poem on Struggling to support its diversity: Squirrel’s Destinyinspired by the work of the squirrels.of.india. They are trying to share the knowledge of biodiversity in squirrel species and the importance of preserving and recording their presence in various areas in India. Slowly from 40 poems, step by step I was increasing my collection of poems in Science Next Door which by the end of the year became 79. Will it cross 100 and let’s wait and see in the year of 2023.
I shared my story Sea turtles of India in their new photo series #CheloniaObscura
Finished a foundation course on Sustainability Management by Sustainable Advancements @sustainableadvancements , All India Management Association (@aima.india ) and Skill Council for Green Jobs (@SCGJ) that really had an impact in the way I can present my stories about nature with others.
During Wetlands Day in February I was fortunate to share my tales about the journey through wetlands of India as a student of nature with Centre for Climate Change Studies, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai.
Then in the same month there was a talk on ‘Journey of Nature Enthusiast’ thanks to Symbiosis Biodiversity Cell, Pune.
News about the war and images that was shared made an impact on my mind, which led to the poem on spillwords.comA PRAYER FOR PEACE…
It was an honour to be featured by Global Youth Biodiversity Network- India
The Shikra poem was published by The False Trail
The False Trail shared the snail poem too.
Collaboration with The False Trail led to sharing image on ants in What’s on the Menu? and Spotted! sections to create awareness about biodiversity at home.
In the Bird monitoring India conference I was able to present a poster on Social media and storytelling for bird monitoring. That was part of my effort to promote Citizen Science efforts in India.
On 12th May WeNaturalists in their mission to empower learning from leading experts in our series ‘Converse to Conserve’ gave me the opportunity to share my thoughts in this series.
I got featured in Humans of Conservation by conservation optimism India.
My poem on Water security and Biodiversity was shared during World Biodiversity Day by Global Youth Biodiversity Network- India
My health took a back seat as I was suffering from Covid during this time.
Also our family lost someone this year and in tribute to her contribution in our life and many others whom she served and supported I wrote this poem on spillwords.com

On 29th September Wenaturalists announced the Finalists for People for nature Awards in the storytelling session. I was one of them and I am grateful for the support given by Wenaturalists.
The ENVIS Centre at WWF-India asked me to take two sessions for 3 batches of students who did WWF Envis GSDP course on Bird Identification and Basic Ornithology, hoping that sessions were useful for these nature loving students..
Green Job Series 2.0 by UNICEF India was an interesting opportunity again to share my insights as a nature writer and the challenges that I faced during this journey of nature education
Wenaturalists carried a giveaway contest on being with nature. This time I won the blog contest.
On Wenaturalists I shared a poem, ‘View, News and some clues…’
This is a poem on a system that is made for, by and of money powered by over consumption. Mankind assume they are master but they already working for an imaginary entity created to keep order in society but is the root of many chaos in nature right now, A food for thought for many giving some clues on how some make news to create views and that is right now shaping the world instead actual science or reality on the ground in most of the cases. Victims of misconceptions are biodiversity and climate action measures
This year too at CitSci India 2022 I shared my presentation on Connecting Words and Well-being With Citizen Science, which was received quite well. Got a letter of appreciation from the CitSci India 2022 Team
That’s 2022 so far for me, I hope to share more nature stories and experiences in 2023.
